In Indonesia, there are countless places worth visiting, whether it's beautiful beaches, breathtaking mountains, or historic temples. In this blog, I would like to share with you some of the lesser-known but no less impressive destinations in Indonesia: Toba, Waerebo, Satonda, Meratus, Rinjani, Kelimutu, Neval of Java, Kerinci, Ubud, and Anak Dara.


Toba

Toba is a large crater lake in North Sumatra, surrounded by green hills and mountains. It is the largest crater lake in the world and was formed by a volcanic eruption over 70,000 years ago. The island of Samosir in the middle of the lake is a popular destination for tourists and offers beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.



Waerebo

Waerebo is a remote village on the island of Flores in East Indonesia, only accessible by foot. The village is famous for its traditional Mbaru Niang houses, which are cone-shaped and covered with grass. The houses are built without nails and are designed to withstand earthquakes and typhoons.


Satonda

Satonda is a small island off the coast of Lombok, known for its crystal clear waters and white beaches. The island was formed by a volcanic eruption and now has a crater lake in the middle. The island is also a popular destination for divers due to its rich marine life.


Meratus

Anak Dara

Anak Dara means "the daughter of the goddess" in the Sasak language. According to legend, Princess Mandalika, a figure from Sasak mythology, was born in a cave on the mountain. The area around Anak Dara is also a sanctuary for the Sasak people and is used for ceremonies and rituals. The mountain is a challenging climb for adventurous hikers and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding region. The area is also rich in flora and fauna, with rare plants and animals found only in this part of the world.
